In the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) region, women have consistently led transformative efforts, uniting communities, promoting inclusive dialogue, and addressing the root
causes of conflict. Despite their critical role in conflict prevention, post-conflict peacebuilding, and fostering long-term development, women’s meaningful participation in formal peace processes remains largely limited to the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS).
