Harnessing Regional Trade to Strengthen Borderland Economies in the Horn of Africa

The Horn of Africa (HoA) envisions economic integration through initiatives such as the Horn of Africa Initiative and Somalia’s admission to the East African Community (EAC). The primary objective of this conference paper is to analyse what these integration efforts could mean for Somalia’s borderland regions, which have faced economic and political marginalisation. It is essential to leverage these prospective integrations to bolster the economies and state-building processes in these peripheral borderlands.
